i don't really have much to say about the matter except that i went to sxsw and you didn't. here's my breakdown of top 5 bands i saw :) ... in no particular order:
CONSTANTINES
www.myspace.com/constantines
a guitarist with a broken hand, a keyboardist playing a set of imaginary keyboards with his feet, a sweaty lead singer, and a likely drunken bassist hovering in the shadowy background makes for good times.
ANAVAN
www.myspace.com/anavan
for lack of a better term, anavan is somewhere in between electro and screamo. their performances are insane. we’re talking football helmets, underpants and drumming with hairy man legs, and pole humping of sorts. i even got a sweaty vocalist head on my shoulder mid-set. mmm.
HEALTH
www.myspace.com/healthmusic
while in line for the constantines, we heard some old couple mentioning that they saw health and thought it was "not music". health’s set was a bit unconventional -- playing on the floor and starting their set off with a bit of a dance ritual -- but it was damn fucking good. and far from being noise.
THE HELIO SEQUENCE
www.myspace.com/theheliosequen...
northwest buds the helio sequence never quite seem to fail to put on a good set. they played only songs off of their newest album, keep your eyes ahead, and anyone who cannot be awestruck by benjamin weikel’s hilariously mechnically awesome drumming is a fool.
OLD TIME RELIJUN
www.myspace.com/theoldtimereli...
old time relijun’s set drew out the most diverse crowd ever, quite like the lead singer’s uncanny ability to spew out phrases from multiple languages (not to mention sing in them.) bass heavy and spastic, their music is actually better in a live setting than it is on a disc.

Man I wish I could have gone to SXSW. I'm still making my way through the massive torrent of 763 artists that they released. My fav so far is definitely Delorean - As Time Breaks Off.
Good to hear Helio Sequence put on a good show. I'll be seeing them in April when they come to NYC.
